  31. about one hour of your time! Do it today; see the results in 
  32. the next generation of HWR devices!

  34. Type Solutions, Inc. announces the availability of our 
  35. digital handwriting sample collector. We have been working
  36. on the next generation of handwriting recognition technology
  37. since 1993. We have overcome many hurdles along the
  38. way to high-accuracy recognition of "natural" writing and 
  39. a few hurdles remain. One of these hurdles isthe gathering 
  40. of a significant sized database of writing samples. 
  41.  
  42. Clearly, the ability of a computer-trained system to 
  43. recognize handwriting can be no better than the database
  44. of examples available for training that system. It is in
  45. this area that we are turning to you, the current base of
  46. Newton users, for assistance. Whether the Newton's built-in
  47. recognizer works very well for you, or whether you find it
  48. next to unusable, we would like to have you submit a sample
  49. of your handwriting for our growing database of handwriting
  50. examples.

  52. Quite simply, the quality of our recognition seems to be
  53. bound by two factors, the underlying architecture, which we
  54. are working constantly to improve, and the size of the
  55. database available for training and evaluation of the system.
  56. Very high-accuracy can be obtained, but we need your help!

  58. Total time required should be approximately one hour; 
  59. Equipment and software required are a Newton device, the
  60. Newton Connection Kit 2.0, and our software (available from

  66. A PCMCIA RAM card is desirable, but not strictly necessary.
  67. Complete instructions are included within a help-book in
  68. our application. A separate app serves to "clean up" the
  69. soups and directory entries inserted by our collector app.
  70. Thus, when you are done, run the clean-up app, and your
  71. Newton will have no soups leftover or other RAM consumers
  72. from our applications.
